Preparing Taxes Without Hired Help
Last updated on March 25, 2014
Many taxpayers do not hire professional help because they prefer to prepare their taxes themselves, but some prepare their taxes themselves because they cannot afford to hire the services of a tax preparer. To accurately prepare taxes, and to make use of the credits and deductions that they qualify for, taxpayers can use free tax service for tax return preparation.
For low-income taxpayers, the elderly, the disabled and those with limited understanding of English, the IRS offers free tax help at various sites in every state. A majority of these help centers only operate during the tax season and solely help taxpayers with issues concerning tax return preparation. Free tax service is only provided to those taxpayers that qualify to receive free service in tax return preparation.
The AARP, the American Association of Retired Persons, which is a non-governmental organization, is also providing free tax help to taxpayers until April 15th, 2014. The AARP is providing tax preparation service to seniors that cannot hire a tax preparer and require assistance in tax preparation. The help is provided by IRS-certified volunteers.
Taxpayers that are facing difficulty in tax preparation or do not know whether they are required to file taxes or not, may use these services to ensure that they are compliant with tax laws.
