Checking Tax Refund Status gets Easier in 2013
Last updated on January 7, 2022
The IRS is boasting about issuing tax refunds faster than ever before in 2012. According to them, they “issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days last year”. So, this year you might expect to receive your tax refund within 21 days, but are not to worry if it gets late because “it’s possible your tax return may require additional review”.
To check the status of your refund, you can use Get Refund Status. Warning: Do not enter your social security number on just any link. It could be a trap to steal your SSN. Only use http://www.irs.gov/ site to e-file taxes and/or check the status of your refund.
http://www.forbes.com/sites/kellyphillipserb/2012/12/17/as-tax-season-approaches-irs-releases-2013-refund-information/ exhibits the new features of Where’s My Refund:
“The IRS has improved the system so that you can check when your tax return has been received, when your refund has been approved and when it has been sent to you. You can start checking on the status of your return within 24 hours after the IRS has received your e-filed return or four weeks after you mail a paper return.”
It is not only easier to know when you can expect your refund to reach you, but now you can get accurate information on the processing stage of your tax refund too. Where’s My Refund? will provide you with the refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund.
According to the IRS, you can check the status of your individual tax return for a refund this year or the last six months of last year through Where’s My Refund? If you are expecting refund for Form 1040X, Amended U.S. Individual Income Tax Return, Where’s My Refund? will not be of any help. Amended tax returns take longer to be processed (8 to 12 weeks at least).
Most taxpayers expect around $3,000 in refund every year. Forbes has some advice on those expecting huge refunds:
“Don’t rely on that refund check. Getting a huge refund may feel like a good thing but in most cases, it’s not. It simply means that the government had the use of your money – interest free – all year. At $3,000 per year, you could have pocketed $250 per month and wouldn’t that have come in handy?”
Getting a refund from the IRS is always welcome. The best thing now is that they now have a tool that can increase your excitement. Many might get addicted to checking the status of their refund.
