Now Check Your Tax Refund Status Online
Last updated on January 7, 2013
If you are expecting a tax refund in 2013, the IRS has good news for you. First, your tax refund will probably reach you in less than 21 days. Second, you will be able to check the status of your tax refund online through Where’s My Refund?
The IRS announced that it issued more than 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 21 days last year. But it does not guarantee that you will receive your refund within 21 days. In some cases, the processing might take longer. If you have filed an amended tax return, your return might take longer to be processed (8 to 12 weeks at least). You can always go to the IRS website and check your refund status from there.
Because phishing attempts will increase during the tax season, you must take care not to enter your SSN on any web page that is not secure and authentic. Only trust the IRS website to file and/or check your refund status.
The improved Where’s My Refund? provides you with additional information on your tax refund. Now you can check online when your tax return was received, when it was approved and when it will be sent to you. If you have filed your tax return through e-filing, you can begin to check your refund status within 24 hours after the IRS receives your return. For paper filing, you need to wait for four weeks.
Taxpayers can now know the processing status of their tax refund, which can help them to know exactly when their tax return reached the IRS and when they will receive their refund.
