IRS Improves ‘Where’s My Refund?’
Last updated on January 8, 2013
At last, there is some good news regarding taxes. The IRS has introduced new features toWhere’s My Refund? Now, taxpayers can check when their tax return is received by the IRS, when their refund is approved and when it will be sent to them. This year too, taxpayers can expect to receive their tax refunds in less than 21 days because, like last year, the IRS is issuing tax refunds faster than ever.
If taxpayers e-file their tax returns, they need to wait for at least 24 hours before checking their refund status. Those who paper file may need to wait for at least four weeks to check their refund status online. Only tax refund status for the year or the last six months of last year can be checked. Refunds for Form 1040X cannot be checked on Where’s My Refund?
To stay protected from phishing attempts, taxpayers must take care not to share their Social Security Number (SSN) on any other web page than on the authentic IRS web page. During the tax season, there are many attempts by tax frauds to steal the SSN of taxpayers for filing fraudulent tax returns. Therefore, taxpayers need to keep their tax filing information safe especially during the tax season.
The updated, personalized Where’s My Refund? can be a great help in knowing the exact status of refunds. It might even be the most loved tool of the IRS. After all, it brings news about money coming in.
